77% of Dutch Internet users shop online

Because of faster Internet connections, more Internet access in public places and expansion of the online offer, the number of Dutch people that can be found online on a daily basis has increased to 90% in 2014. According to a recent study published by Statistics Netherlands, E-shopping is — next to listening online radio and watching online TV – the most popular online activity. Survey Online shopping by Statistics Netherlands Between 2005 and 2014, the number of Dutch Internet users that shops online has increased by over 150%. While in 2005, 50% shopped online, in the last year this percentage increased to 77% of the total number of Internet users. Favourite online purchases are, as in previous years, travel and clothing. We are increasingly online, not only on various devices when we are at home but also when we are out. Due to the increase in the number of WI-FI spots, we have the ability to be online almost 24/7 using mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. As such, it isn’t strange to see a great increase in these mobile devices compared to the desktop PC. The use of laptops has remained stable in recent years.
